Beach Safety
Before heading
to the beach:

-check the ocean forecast
http://www.ripcurrents.noaa.gov/forecasts.shtml
check government channel 20 for updates
*note that even on a low risk day, rip currents can be present

- take your cell phone
(even if you are staying oceanfront, minutes can save lives)

- bring your address
(when calling 911, it is very important to
know your location whether you are
in front of your house or at a public beach)

-know your limitations and abilities...
the ocean is much different than a pool!

-check the water for rip currents
(see Rip Current page for videos and pictures)

-swim with a buddy

-make sure someone on shore can see
you while you are in the water
**It is always safer to swim in front of a lifeguard.**
